The aim of the present study was to test the effect of a self-talk intervention on precompetitive
anxiety and performance in young tennis players by means of an experimental study.
Twelve tennis players (10 boys and 2 girls) aged between 12 and 18 years, with a mean of 14.33
and a standard deviation of 2.74 participated. The participants were divided into two groups,
experimental group (n=6) and control group (n=6), all subjects who participated in the research
carried it out until the end, without any faults, dropouts or injuries. An intervention was carried
out in the Orcelis Social and Sports Club of 5 sessions in which the first session was simply an
introduction, from the second to the fourth were track training sessions, from less to more
complex and the last session was a competition. A total of 4 questionnaires were filled in, the
first questionnaire was filled in prior to the introduction session of the self-talk, before starting
the intervention, this questionnaire aimed at measuring the content and structure of the players'
internal dialogue, the second measurement was carried out in the fifth session, before playing the
intra-tournament tournament, in which pre-competition anxiety was measured and the last
measurement was carried out after the fifth session, after the competition, in which the content
and structure of the internal dialogue used during the competition was measured again in order to
compare it with the results obtained before the intervention. Perceived performance was
measured at the same time, to be performed by both the players and the coach. After this, the
