Abstract:
Es cada vez más común encontrarse a un atleta que padece de dolor en la uña del dedo gordo del pie, muchas veces encontrándose también implicada la uña del 2do dedo.

It may not be common, but it is not unlikely to encounter an athlete suffering from pain in the nail plate of the big toe, sometimes involving the second toenail as well.
We’ve seen this happen mostly in runners and tennis players and it clearly is an impediment in the normal course of their sporting activities. As we are seeing more and more people taking on running as a hobby, the cases are on the rise. The pain can reduce the performance of the athletes, hinders their training and in cases where the condition doesn't cause pain, some patients complain about the black appearance of the toenail.
What can the podiatrist offer to patients suffering from this condition and how can it be prevented?
Objectives
Know the nail diseases caused by repetitive trauma and use biomechanics to understand why the pathologies affect some athletes while others are not, passing through extrinsic factors such as footwear, how to choose it properly and possible preventive measures.
Material and methods: Search strategy
The present study has been developed through a bibliographic search using the Pubmed search engine as a health science database.
Conclusions
1. Sports produce nail lesions. The main ones we have found are: subungual hematoma or tennis toe, transverse leukonychia, longitudinal melanoma, onycholysis and nail avulsion.
2. Microtrauma on the toenail frequently occurs as a result of:
-The function of the foot in static and dynamic
-Morphology of the foot and toe
-Footwear
-Other factors
