Introduction: Quadriceps injury is one of the most common injuries in soccer practice. There are different mechanisms of injury and the rectus femoris is the most frequently injured because it is a biarticular muscle. Exercise programs are used in the prevention and rehabilitation of the quadriceps; however, there is a lack of knowledge about the intensity of the commonly used exercises. Objective: The purpose of this study will be to know and compare the muscle activation of the different components of the quadriceps muscle during the exercises under study using electromiography. Materials and methods: 20 male soccer players will participate in this descriptive observational study. Muscular activation of the rectus femoris, vastus medialis and vastus lateralis will be collected by surface electromyography (mDurance Solutions SL, Granada, Spain) during the performance of 7 exercises. Subjects will performed 10 repetitions of each exercise and electromyography values will be presented as the percentage (%) of the maximum voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) value, which will be pre-calculated and classified into low, medium and high intensity exercises. Future expectations of the study: The results of this study will allow us to objectively obtain data on what happens in the muscles during the performance of each exercise, therefore we will be able to design better prevention and rehabilitation strategies of injuries in the quadriceps muscle.
