INTRODUCTION: The prone plank is a widely used exercise for CORE work. It is an exercise that generates a global activation of the central muscles, hence its importance in the clinical and sports fields.
STUDY DESIGN: review
MATERIAL AND METHODS: For the preparation of this review, a search was carried out in 3 databases: Pubmed, PEDro and Embase. The Boolean operators AND and OR have been used to join the terms and develop a search formula. As an essential inclusion criterion is that they have been published in the last 10 years.
RESULTS: Fourteen are the final articles included in the review. All of them analyze the level of contraction of some central muscles using surface electromyography and all are in a healthy and relatively young population.
CONCLUSION: The results tell us that there are several factors that influence the level of contraction of the CORE muscles during the planks in prone position, and some factors may be associated with a greater or lesser activation of certain specific muscles
