Cephalota (Taenidia) deserticoloides (Coleoptera, Cicindelidae) is an endemic tiger beetle species present in the Southeast Iberia, associated with hypersaline steppe habitats. The aim of this work is to molecularly characterize a population of this species, present in the province of Alicante and recently rediscovered. Two types of analysis will be carried out. A pylogeographic one, based on the mitocondrial cytochrome oxidase first subunit gene. Another phylogenetic one, to try to clarify the relationship between this species and the rest of species of Cephalota. Sampling was carried out in localities where it was cited and also in areas with potential habitat. After sequence a fragment of mitochondrial DNA from all the specimens collected, an haplotype network was built, revealing the relationships between the rediscovered population in Vinalopó River and the other known localities. The close relationship between the populations of San Isidro and Vinalopó may be explained by their ancient connection along the coastline of the ancient Elche Lagoon. In addition, the phylogenetic analysis, together with sequences from other species of the genus Cephalota, confirmed the previously established relationships among the taxa of this group. With the information of this work, the knowledge about the history and relationships of the different populations of C. deserticoloides is increased, which allow us to propose diverse hypotheses that lead to the same conclusion: due to the pressure on their habitat, the populations are very fragmented and reduced, which is a serious threat to the survival of this endemism.es
