The music video is a format born with television and cinema. In the beginning, it only had commercial value. In 1975 the music video "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen was released. This made them begin to explore the creative possibilities of videoclips. The impact of them on society was growing until the 80s. The quality of those videos went up and other techniques such as animation began to be used. Animation has grown together with music and with cartoons on television. The impact of videoclips stopped animation from directing the music to become the protagonist, directing the animation by change. In Spain, the first animated music video was "El mejor cocktail" (1987), for the group Brighton 64. Since then, the production of animated music videos in Spain has not stopped. In 2018, four animated videoclips from PlayGroud group have been produced and became viral on the internet. There are three types of animation: traditional, digital and stop-motion, which encompass subtypes. The main objective of this project is to study the evolution and the characteristics of animated music videoclips in Spain. We hope to find a reduced number of clips most of them made with 2D animation for hip-hop/rap songs. To begin our research we will compile all the animated music videos created for Spanish songs from 1987 to 2018. Our main search tools will be YouTube and Vimeo. With a list of 104 music videos, you can see the low production of this type of music videos in Spain, bearing in mind that the great majority of these productions are for musical groups with few followers. The information gathered for this research has allowed us to study the evolution and importance of animation in Spanish music, from its beginning to nowadays, identifying which kind of animation is most in demanded in Spain.
